In the first year, players will be named as IFF Player of the Year 2024/2025. Key dates in the voting process include nominations due by May 9, with voting conducted until mid-June, and results evaluated by the end of June. The first awards will be presented at The World Games 2025 instead of the usual December presentation during the World Floorball Championships.

Eligible national federations, ones that have registered for the World Floorball Championships for the preceding season in question, can nominate players based on their performance with national teams and in domestic leagues. Each federation can nominate three players per gender, but only two can be from the same country. Floorball equipment manufacturers can nominate two players per gender as well.

The voting process will be conducted via a Webropol platform, with selected participants, including national team coaches and media, receiving a unique link to vote. The candidates will be scored based on a point system, and the top ten for each gender will be published after results are finalised. Winners will receive awards at The World Games 2025, and if they are not part of the participating teams, awards will be given at another time.

Timeline of the voting

• Nomination of candidates by the 9th of May
• Preparation of the voting files by mid-May
• Voting period till mid-June
• Result evaluation and publication of short list (Top 5) by end June
• The IFF Player of the Year 2024/2025 awards will be handed out at The World Games 2025
• The standard procedure is to hand the awards out in December at World Floorball Championships

Nomination of candidates

Each year the national federations that have registered for the World Floorball Championships for the preceding season in question are eligible to nominate and vote for candidates. For this first year this means countries that had registered for the 2024 championships. Selected floorball equipment manufacturers will also be allowed to nominate players.

The nomination criteria for candidates:

• Performance in the national team (overall performance, scoring points / save %)
• Performance in domestic league (overall performance, scoring points / save% / +- rating if available)
• Selection to the WFC All-Star Team / as MVP / national awards

Each eligible federation can nominate three players for each gender but only two from their own country. Floorball equipment manufacturers can nominate two players for each gender. The candidates need to be ranked in order 1-3.

List of candidates

Now is the time for federations to start considering their candidates. The nominations will be submitted via an online nomination form (address to be informed later). The federations and manufacturers must in their nomination include player facts and performance data of each nominee. A form with missing information will be a reason to disqualify the nomination.

The final voting list is to include a minimum of 15 and maximum 30 players per gender as candidates. The IFF has the right to narrow down the number of candidates and create the final voting list.

The Americas Qualification is played from 8th — 10th March 2025 in Austin, Texas, USA and USA and Canada will play a best-of-three series to decide the qualifying team. The teams met last August in The World Games 2025 Qualification event and then it was Team Canada who dominated. They won all three matches against USA (12-2, 13-2, 8-0) and secured their spot in TWG 2025 in Chengdu, China. Will they continue their success in Austin or will it be USA who will be going to Czechia this December?

Singapore, the location for the Women’s 2023 World Floorball Championships will be hosting the Women’s AOFC Qualification event from 18th — 22nd March. The event is played with 8 teams: Japan, Thailand, New Zealand and India are playing in Group A and Singapore, Australia, Philippines and Korea in Group B. Three best teams qualify for the 2025 World Championships and in addition, two best teams qualify for The World Games 2025.

There are eight referee pairs from six different countries and two referee coaches from two different countries. The Head of the Referees is Mr. Tony Holmer from Sweden and the two referee coaches are Mr. Jarno Mäki from Finland, and Mr. Inge Haug from Norway.

— “The Men’s U19 WFC is a very important achievement and accomplishment for international referees on their journey as IFF referees and I think we have found a very good referee team for this tournament. A mix of experience, energy and expertise” says Mr. Carlos Lopez, the Chair of the IFF RC.

Media representatives must register via the IWGA Media Accreditation to get the needed access. Registration ends on Sunday 1st June 2025. Applicants will be reviewed, and a decision will be communicated by email no later than 10th June 2025.

Men’s U19 WFC 2025 + 3v3 WFC 2025 (Zurich & Winterthur, Switzerland)

Over 1,300 tickets have been sold, with most of them for the Final day in the Swiss Life Arena and the LOC has a marketing plan towards the Swiss clubs and other target groups like coaches, employees of the city and the Canton of Zurich. The LOC is starting a marketing campaign to give supporters their names on the game shirt of Team Switzerland. The promotion through the Street Floorball Events continues with the event at the Zurich Main railway station on the 12th and 13th of April. Over 6.000 school kids will attend the games during the group stage.

The final qualification event for the U19 WFC 2025 was held from 29th January – 2nd February in Latisana, Italy. The teams qualifying from these qualifications were the Netherlands and Slovenia.

3v3 WFC will be played with 27 Men’s & 21 Women’s teams. A first-ever registration for an IFF event was received from Hong Kong. The venues will have 5 rinks and teams will play matches over two days. There will be A & B-finals like there was in the 1st 3v3 WFC, but there is the addition also of bronze medal matches.

Women’s WFC 2025 (Brno & Ostrava, Czechia)

The Match schedule and the ticket sales started before Christmas. The cooperation with the Sport Agency and cities is good.

The first ticket sales have begun with Czechia group tickets and final weekend passes. The group ballot has been confirmed for 20th of March in Ostrava. Regular meetings have been scheduled between the LOC and the IFF office. Those will be held once a month until the end of May, twice a month from June – September and then weekly from October until the event starts.

Qualifications

The EUR qualifications were played in Latvia (28th January — 1st February) and Italy (29th January — 1st February). Six teams (Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Germany, Norway, Estonia) qualified from Latvia and five (Switzerland, Netherlands, Slovakia, Poland, Denmark) from Italy. The Americas qualification will be held in Austin, Texas, USA from 8th – 10th March 2025. USA & Canada will play a best-of-3 series to decide the qualifying team. The AOFC qualification will be held in Singapore from 18th – 22nd March 2025 with 8 teams competing. The top 3 teams will qualify for WFC 2025, while the top 2 will also qualify for The World Games 2025.

Final Round Playing System

The final round will be played with 16 teams divided into four groups.  The forming of the groups shall be decided in a ballot based on the final rankings of the two previous Championships of the same category, where each group will be allotted two teams from each basket as follows:

Group A and B:

Basket 1: Ranking 1-4
Basket 2: Ranking 5-8

Group C and D:

Basket 3: Ranking 9-12
Basket 4: Ranking 13-16

In the group stage each team plays each other once, while the second stage includes play-offs and placement matches. The two best teams of group A and B go directly to the quarter final. Teams placed third and fourth in group A and B and the teams placed 1st and 2nd in group C and D make it to the first play-off round (played before the quarter finals).

Women’s U19 WFC 2026

In 2026, Italy will for the first time ever host a World Floorball Championship final round, when the Women’s U19 event is played in Lignano Sabbiadoro & Latisana, Italy. A total of 20 countries have registered, of which 11 will receive direct qualification and the remaining 5 will be decided in regional qualifications played in August / September 2025.

Italy, as host country, along with the top-nine placed teams from the previous Women’s U19 WFC, played in 2024, as well as Canada, being the only Americas team to register, all receive direct qualification.

Teams for the final round will qualify as follows:

EUROPE – 10 teams directly + 2 via qualifications

ASIA OCEANIA – 3 teams via qualifications

AMERICAS – 1 team directly

International Calendar

The CB confirmed the agreement to continue working in the direction of a change to a 4-year WFC cycle, with the already established Calendar Working Group given the task of determining how best to move forward with these plans.  The CB also decided that with the already agreed and communicated decision to move the U19 WFC to February, to help national leagues better build a season calendar, there is a need to make an update to the U19 WFCs plan.

To avoid the situation where an U19 World Floorball Championships is played close to an adult World Floorball Championships of the same gender, the years of the U19 WFCs will be switched. In order not to lose any generation, which would miss the chance to play an U19 WFC, the events will be organised as follows: the Women’s U19 WFC 2026 in May and 2027 in May, the Men’s U19 WFC 2027 in February and 2028 in February. From then on the U19 WFC will be played each year in February, with alternating genders each year, thereby keeping the U19 WFC played every second year for each gender, as is the same in the current calendar.

Representing two countries – IFF Competition Regulations Update

The IFF rules previously stated that a player who held citizenship of two countries could represent one country at junior level (U17 & U19) and another at senior level (U23 & adult), however, after several different situations the IFF found this rule was limiting for players who had the possibility to represent two countries. Especially at junior level, where a player is still developing and their pathway towards a senior team position remains unclear, a change to this rule would allow junior players more opportunities to experience international competition and pursue their possible place in an adult national team. The proposal was to change the rule to allow a player to represent two countries at U17, U19, or U23 level but only one at adult level.

The proposed rule change was approved by the CB with the new regulation wording, which is valid in both the Competition Regulations – National Teams & Competition Regulations – Friendly Internationals, as follows:

3.2 A player may represent two separate nations in an U17, U19 or U23 national team. They may represent one of  either of these same nations at adult international level. Once a player has represented a nation in an adult team in a recognised international match this then becomes the only nation they can represent at any international level (U17, U19, U23, or adult).

3.3 A player may represent only one nation within a single event, which includes qualifications for a final round event.

IFF Event Manager, Ms Sarah Mitchell, said “this change will benefit the development of the junior players. While also helping some of the smaller national associations to have more players available to represent them, the players will still be free to pursue their dream of representing a larger floorball country in the future.”

The following are the changes now in place for all incoming TUE applications:

• A 100 CHF fee will now be applied to all incoming TUE applications.
• A 300 CHF will be applied to all incoming late TUE applications (after the TUE deadline for an event, as set out in the event guidelines)

Athletes and federations can still apply for a TUE from their National Anti-Doping Organisations for free. These TUE’s once approved can be recognised by the IFF for use at our events.

During this meeting, the CB discussed and decided to explore expanding the number of Fields of Interest the IFF CB will focus on in the future. The aim is to enhance IFF’s capacity, involve more federations and individuals within the IFF network, and, in doing so, gain greater expertise and insights. As a result, the CB has restructured its committees and established six activity clusters: Competition, Development, External Relations, Marketing, Members, and Sport.

The CB has defined the Fields of Activity, and in the coming months, the elected CB members responsible for each cluster will finalise how these activities will be allocated within the new structure.

The next phase of this process involves defining the scope and clear guidelines for each Field of Activity. Once this is completed, the CB will begin selecting committee members. The objective is to finalise this process and have the entire structure in place by the next CB meeting in May.

This new structure is designed to provide greater insight and make it easier for the IFF to implement tasks outlined in the Plan of Action. At the same time, it will allow for the involvement of more individuals in IFF activities, thereby expanding the network of people engaged in these discussions.

— This approach will enable us to achieve the IFF’s objectives more efficiently and accelerate the global development of floorball, said IFF President Filip Šuman.
